Definition
What this scale is trying to describe
This scale describes a reported tendency to prioritize empathy, cooperation, trust, and other people’s needs.
- Compassion
- Respectfulness
- Trust
Kindness, goodness, healthy boundaries, or susceptibility to manipulation.
Interpretation
Both poles can help—and both have trade-offs
A higher-pole response may support warmth, cooperation, and attention to another person’s experience. Without enough candor, it can also make disagreement harder to voice.
A lower-pole response may support skepticism, direct feedback, and independent judgment. Without enough warmth, it can make collaboration or repair more difficult.
Compassion and boundaries answer different questions. Caring about someone does not require agreeing, complying, or taking responsibility for every need.

Questions worth carrying into real life
- 01Can I state the boundary without arguing that my need is more valid?
- 02When does directness improve trust, and when does it need more context?
- 03Am I cooperating freely or avoiding the discomfort of disagreement?
